Zed and I have been looking for John Henry's Hammer.

Pathfinder that found it, mentioned using other legendary items for some benefit. Don't think he wanted a wish list of everything that ever was. He did mention finding something from Chicago may help specifically.

Significant to Chicago? What are we going to get the Ivy of the outfield wall of Wrigly Field? Mike Ditka's 1986 Chicago Bears sweater? Micheal Jordan's #23 Bulls Jearsey?

Something not sports related, the latern the cow kicked over to start the Great Chicago Fire?

On December 2, 1942, the world's first controlled nuclear reaction was conducted at the University of Chicago as part of the top secret Manhattan Project. maybe we can get something from that? i can't think of anythign else that is iconic and from chicago...

It looks like since we need an object with legendary ablilities attached to it that list gets really short.
Al Capones "vault" or other items of his would likely be in chicago. The only 3 I think that qualify that we know beond doubt existed before the invasion are Anne Okley's Rifle, reputed to be able to hit a cigarette tip at 100+ yards. The USS Constitution, a hull so strong no cannon ball could breach it. Tesla's tower, which could brodcast electricity through open air. Most of the other items on the list are historically or culturally important but have no legendary abilities to them. Can we start working on real object & fairie tale object lists. Then we can focus our efforts much more easily.

Kyle

The coming up with lists was kind of a "game" we played Sunday morning way to early. Though if we do end up going to the great seal in DC, we are SO hitting the Smithsonian and taking everything that might have significance that we can carry.

I believe I missed the original point of the ritual. We are looking for items that:
    * are conceptually connected to American icons
    * were purported to perform some unusual activity
    * are likely still around

Is that correct? What should this do?

It has been a while since my American Folklore classes, but would these be helpful?

    Jesse James' gun
    Calamity Jane's gun
Aunty Greenleaf's deer (unlikely as it's an animal)
    Bigfoot Wallace's broadaxe
Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind's toothpick
some part of The Courser, Old Stormalong's ship
the bloody knife from the Micmac legend involving Wokun/Bloody Creek
    Gollywhopper eggs

I'm pleased that John Henry was mentioned, at least. I love some of the stories involving him, especially his end. So noble and tragic.

If we liberate Detroit, one of the main strongholds is/was the Detroit Institute of the Arts. Could some of the crap in there help?

Richard Feynman's original lectures on physics (usually collected as a book called Six Easy Pieces). Failing that I would say we should look for his bongos or juggling balls.

(Richard Feynman was probably the foremost American particle physicist, legendary for his ability to teach complex stuff to mere mortals, and also was instrumental in the Manhattan project. Was involved in the Challenger disaster investigation, too.)[/code]

Have any of you heard of the Skull and Bones Society that was in Yale? Supposedly they stole the skull, femurs, and silver bridal of Geronimo. With the state of the world being what it is, I'm inclined to believe that this myth was true and it might be something worth looking into.
